Amazon To Oregon High Court:  Security Screenings Not Compensable

Mealey's (May 17, 2022, 12:02 PM EDT) -- SALEM, Ore. — The time workers spend waiting for and undergoing security screening is not compensable under Oregon law where there is no “contract, custom, or practice that requires compensation” pursuant to the controlling administrative rule promulgated by the Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI), Amazon.com Services Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. (together, Amazon) argue in an answering brief filed May 13 in the Oregon Supreme Court addressing a question certified by the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in a worker’s putative class complaint....
