(February 2, 2022, 1:18 PM EST) -- TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida state court jury on Jan. 28 awarded $9,750,000 in compensatory damages to the widower of a smoker who died after contracting chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and who sued a tobacco company in an Engle case for deceiving his late wife into believing that she could mitigate the health risks of smoking by switching to “Ultra Light” cigarettes.
